Journalists and their audiences!!!!!

Journalists have every reason to worry about professional standards. Ironically for a profession whose commodity is the truth, journalism is increasingly distrusted by the public.

Some say you should only keep your opinions on the editorial page and out of the news. It is like taking a bite without buying the cookie. 

 Can there be fair coverage of news?  The decline of public confidence in the news media prompts this question. 

Why is public perception so important to journalists? And since there seems to be no way that journalists can please the public, why should they even try? 

The answer: our audience pays our salaries; we owe them respect. In short, journalists have to accept that they are not going to be loved by the public but can’t afford to stop trying to improve their credibility in the eyes of the public. 

The best course is to adopt a philosophical attitude by setting a goal of gaining respect and not necessarily popularity.
