East African United Nations Conference
“Employees at the United Nations must be so grateful,” I told the United Nations Association of Uganda’s Secretariat. “That is a subjective statement,” he said. His opinion did not matter at that time.
Being at the United Nations Offices in Nairobi for an East Africa conference on Millennium Development Goals and biodiversity as the Head of Communications/ Press was a dream come true.
Working with the United Nations is a dream for many young and old people. Externally, we may not know challenges they face as is the case with many organizations, but one thing for sure is that it is one of the best paying and organized associations.
The East African Youth Conference on Millennium Development Goals and Biodiversity which was held from the 28th September-1st October 2010 was a success.
Commitments on recycling of waste materials, use of organic materials and a public outcry against all sorts of pollution were central themes as well as a realization that the youth are the greatest assets in society.
They can make the difference and are the difference they want to see.
Networking was the focal point of this conference and it was highly emphasized.
We had an opportunity of meeting heads from different UN departments, toured around as we learn't so much that will definitely make us better leaders.
